Mission
Motif Community Outreach of RI (MCORI) is dedicated to helping niche artistic and non-profit communities by providing opportunities for celebration, networking, appreciation, promotion, and advancement in the Rhode Island area.
Vision / Action Plan
- Specifically, to support the crowd-pleasing awards events Motif has been road-testing for years in the arts and entertainment sector.
- Many of the proposed events would focus on awards ceremonies for communities that don’t have existing recognition or which are under-reported.
- Facilitating networking and a shared experience for these communities is also a crucial component.
- The organization would also support various local arts communities with non-award events anywhere it appears these events would be helpful to those communities.
- Many of these events would involve collaboration with existing non-profits, venues, artists etc, and that collaboration is to be encouraged.
- Finally, the organization will identify other area non-profits in the arts and entertainment sphere whose work for the community deserves more recognition or wider promotion, and will use its resources (as available) to help with that promotion.
- This activity is dedicated to the philosophy that networking within niche artistic communities produces a multiplier effect. Ideas cross-contaminate, like-minded artists find support (practical and emotional) and by comparing notes and working better together, arts segments can create the “rising tide that raises all boats.” The world is enhanced by the arts and changed. It is through the arts that many new ideas are introduced – sociologically, scientifically, philosophically, politically – by exploring the human condition, the arts prepare us as a society to confront challenges to our humanity and our place in the universe. This organization seeks to enhance and encourage all of that.
Background
Created in 2025 by a collection of people working with Motif Magazine, the non-profit champions artistic communities that are often overlooked or under appreciated by the mainstream.
For 20 years, Motif has been holding events, award shows and celebrations to this end. The communities have often been very appreciative, but these events have been held with little or no public, state, or locality support, and they generally do not generate enough funds to cover their expenses, even though they help countless local artists.
